Re: Laker "tippiness"
I have a Laker I built 3 years ago, and it was very tippy the first time I took it out. I had a 1 1/2 inch high platform and a 2 inch boat cushion under my bum. I used the boat cushion a backrest when I got back in for the second go round and that helped quite a bit. After I took out the platform an...

Re: ? Your favorite brand of epoxy for S&G ?
Progressive Epoxy works great for me. Simply 2:1 ratio using their Basic No Blush and the price is not bad either $89.00 for 1.5 gal. 1 gal epoxy 1/2 gal hardner.
I have used it on my Laker 13 and my Bucanneer with no problems, even in the Florida heat.

Re: Soft pad eyes
Great job on those pad eyes. I use the same technique, except I use an old electric soldering iron to make the holes. They don't let me play with the stove or matches and stuff  I top them off with finish washers and matching screws. I even found some little do-hickeys that mount in the bottom...

Re: Talk about blessings
Keep that ariel photo handy when you get into those saltmarshes. I went into a little one up around charleston SC. Took 45 minutes to get in, then the wind and tide helped to make it a 2 1/2 hour challenge to get out. Have some good times out there!!

Re: Mixing small batches of Epoxy
I have found that beauty supply shops have a small plastic beaker that is used for mixing hair dye. It has both ml and oz markings. If you keep it clean, it last quite a while.

Re: Laker Redo
It is not as bad as it looks in the pictures. Just surface stuff. A little sanding will get most of it cleaned up. I will try your suggestion of the acetone mix. I will check around to see if anyone carries the penetrating epoxy you mentioned, maybe West Marine over here.

Re: Laker Redo
No varnish on the bottom. The deck and sides did have varnish on them. Looking back, since the kayak spent most of the time with the bottom up on my truck, I should have put a good coat on the bottom as well. The top deck and sides are not breaking down like the bottom. The mildew is under the epoxy...
