How would you rate the performance of your tandem you drew of the Northwind and a North wind 17 fter that both have two paddlers and carrying 500 lbs.

The tandem (the one I sent you the lower hull panel drawing for) is 20' x 30".
It's tough to compare because they different sizes and hull shapes. The tandem has less panels and is not as round. Plus the tandem is meant to be controlled and propelled by two people instead of just one in the North Wind.

I wonder what ever happened to that guy? He paid for the custom design service and was anxious to start. Then I never heard from him again after I sent the plans.
Anyway, I tried to match the specs of the Kruger Cruiser http://www.krugercanoes.com/prod03.htm best I could. While I had extended time to study and actual Sea Wind, I've never laid hands on a Cruiser. But I applied the many principles I learned studying the Sea Wind to the version of the Cruiser I drew up.
18'6 x 36".
Again, it's a tandem and comparing it to a shorter, narrower hull meant to paddled solo would be tough to do. I'll say this much: it should shallow a lot of gear (for 2 paddlers) and still be quite nimble and efficient on the water. If you run out of capacity, you're taking too much along.

I have taken my wife for a ride in my Northwind and I found that with her sitting back a bit in the cockpit and me sitting right at the back, the boat performed well. After all, the Wind is designed to take a load. Now I am no expert on design, but I feel that if the boat was just stretched a foot or two and the cockpit extended, this would make a pretty awesome tandem. I reckon it's stable enough not to need a wider beam.
