Re: Sasquatch in the Outback (Oz) Desert
Thanks Bob,
We did a quick, basic set up on the "Town" Common on the banks of Cooper creek that night and woke up to this in daylight.
We decided to rest up here for a few days and these guys went past every day, fishing a little upstream from us.
We threw the quick annex up for a little extra shade
and it was time for a shower to wash some of the dust off.
before chasing a feed of fish.

It amazes me that there are fish in those outback waterways at all but especially that you can find species like the golden perch that are so well known in the Murray Darling, a completely isolated system.
Mick, I have posted a link to this thread on AKFF as I think many there will find it of interest.
Already had this comment from Dodge:
"Bob thanks for posting that thread mate, it made a good read.
If you are a member on that forum, can you pass on congrats to Mick and his new bride from me, and wish them both well."

Re: Sasquatch in the Outback (Oz) Desert
Thanks Bob,
I remember Dodge well. Bloody nice bloke.
Mate, the yellowbelly are thick out there and there is no effort required to catch them. They inhabit all the channel country rivers and range as far north as the Georgina River at Camooweal. To emphasize the number of fish, check out this couple of locals and their "traditional" wire mesh fish trap with the fish in it. (behind them and to the right)
We could have filled the freezer there the first day if we wanted to but we both believe in only taking what we need to eat that day
The quality of the fish wasn't too bad either.
A few pics from the canoe
Giant river red gums. They were probably very old trees when the lunatic Burke first came through here
Sunset on the Cooper
Dawn - same place

Re: Sasquatch in the Outback (Oz) Desert
Before we left, we paid a visit to Bourke's original grave site on the banks of this lovely river system. I initially came here to pay my respects to the great man who first explored this bipolar county. As I very quickly learned, the man was at best, an ambitious and dangerous expedition leader who pushed his men and animals way to hard in this unforgiving land. He was brutal to the local natives who were feeding him and his men when they returned starving from their attempt to reach Australia's northern coast. He even shot them when they took some of his sugar. The aborigines then moved away and he and two of his three remaining men then starved to death,

where food and water are so plentiful.
end of rant - sorry
All way too soon, it was time to start heading East.
but before we leave, a quick look around the town of Innamincka (population 8 )
Pub
Apart from a public ablutions block and a service station (gas station), that is about it.
Leaving Innamincka... sigh....
Back in Queensland
Next big stop,

Nice canoe, nice Lady, nice camper, nice report! 4 wheeling with a canoe, thats just awesome! I really like that camping rig. Cant believe how large it is when its all set up. And how the table and stove slide out the side. That is just too cool. Looks like yall had a great trip. Thanks for posting.
