On Bruce Roberts' site, I found a link to this site: http://spray.heihei.bz/ which shows much of the build process for a CS38. I did read enough to see that it uses three layers of planking. One laid fore to aft and two laid on diagonals. The cost of the study plans aren't a drop in the bucket compared to what it would cost to build and rig the boat.

I have ordered the study plans and I cant wait to get them. Hopefully I will receive them before this weekend or they will take more time to get to me as they follow me around the world.

I am looking to start building a boat around 2009/2010 ish as I will not have enough pare time to finish the build inthe time preceeding. As I move to different locations every 2 years I have to plan this well.

Thanks for that link, I couldent find it myself but it is a great diary of building the Cent 38 (my currently preferred option) I noticed that it took them several years to build but it didnt say roughly how many hours during this time. I am sure the study plans will have this information as I may have to rethink my current plans. Meanwhile I am working on the dingy and looking a strip dingy to build next.

Thanks again fellas,

Read the FAQ's at that link.
the two of us alone have so far put over 14,000 hours together actually ON the boat (not including planning, purchasing, sourcing etc). We have also had between 2 and 3 other people working on the boat full-time for the first 3 years, so there won't be much change out of 30,000 hours on the boat so far. Probably another 5,000 to go.

Wow thats a lot of hours. is that normal or are we looking at some real perfectionists here?

I'd say if you are going to trust the boat on the ocean you'd better be a perfectionist.

Here's a log of Charles Whipple building a Welsford Sundowner.

Start date October, 2005. He's about 1/2 done.
