I went down to the hardware to grab a cheap pair of saw horses, intending to cut the legs down to a comfortable working height when sitting on the table.
They only had $60 horses..... Then I found these 1 inch quad pieces and the nifty little plastic joining doodads and thought .....for less than the horse I can make these.....

A few minutes cutting to size and joining together and there it was
Solid, stable and adaptable

Update on the first of three Laker 14’s.
The Melbourne winter has made progress a bit slow with few days warm enough to work the resin with confidence. But I’ve plodded along and am now about three weeks away from completion weather permitting.
I’m building this one for a friend so she can give it to her husband for his birthday. Unfortunately I’ll miss the deadline because his birthday is next weekend……so she’ll just give him a picture of it instead……for now.
I haven’t taken many pictures so far because the build has been pretty conventional. But here are a few.

I didn’t use spacers in the stitching stage. Instead, after stitching and tack welding the panels, I created a 1/16 inch gap where the panels were wood to wood using a dremel tool.
I was happy with the result because it produced a nice consistent filleting gap despite my naturally wavy panel
cutting style.


Getting ready for the internal glassing of the hull.


Front deck tack welded. Reinforcing points for the hooks for bungy cord webbing and rod holders glued on. They’ve since had fibre glassed over as well.
The rear deck has been put together and is ready to go on.
Inside of the hull has been painted.

Most times I've had an opportunity to work, it seemed to hover around 50 Fahrenheit.
I build in an open sided shed which I can't heat

Good to see you back in action John.

You've done well with an open sided shed in a Melbourne winter - I seize up completely when summer's over. You need to think seriously about enclosing that work area though if you want to finish the fleet before 2012!

Laker 14 (number 1 of 3) has been completed.
I haven’t posted anymore build pictures because it all went along pretty conventionally.
Here are some shots of her completed.


I added an outer gunwale for mounting an anchor trolley
She’s fitted out with rod holders, rear storage with 9 inch deck hatch just behind the cockpit

All frames remain in place. Deck bungs are to allow ventilation of the chambers created by frames 1 and 4. A pin hole is drilled into the top of each frame as per advice I’d read somewhere else in the forum

Frame 2 is cut out to provide access/storage through to frame 1

The second piece of ply layered over the rear deck where the hatch cover is, disguises the fact that I cocked up cutting the original circle for the hatch.
It was very slightly off centre…just enough to bug the life out of me.
I didn’t notice until the deck panels where glued together so I cut a new overlay allowing me to centre the cover properly.
I’m hoping to test her out this weekend, and then she’s off to her (hopefully) happy new owner….

That is absolutely gorgeous. Wow!!

My hat's off to you , That is one slick looking craft. Anyone would be more then happy with it. It is clear to see that a lot of thought and care went into building it.
