Laker or Freedom 11?

While waiting to get started on my next build, I'm wondering about the one to follow. . . :D

I'd like to have a "loaner" boat to help get people interested in recreational paddling and paddle-fishing. Once done, then convert them to the "Dark Side," boat building.

Which might be a better for that, Laker or Freedom 11?

The boat would be used mostly by people with little or no experience with paddle-power. They'd be used in fairly well protected waters where they could get used to the idea of being their own propulsion systems and discover how much fun paddling and fishing from a small boat can be.

This being Florida, there'd be no need for any white water capability, I talking about backcountry flats, freshwater lakes and fairly sedate rivers. Just the occasional wake from a passing motor boat would be the worst conditions the boat would have to face.

either would get the job done. Freedom 11 will be a bit more stable, but slower.

Thanks, Matt.

That's kind of what I was thinking, about Freedom being a little more stable. Sounds to me like the real answer would be to build both.

I think maybe Mick's a bad influence on me.

To that end, this Tuesday will be my wife's first trip with me in my Pirogue. Taking her to the most picturesque spot on my "trip list," the Chassahowitzska. Within a half mile of the ramp there are at least 5 springs to visit. Nice, easy paddling, lots of shade.

If she gets more adventurous, it's a 6 mile run out the to Gulf of Mexico, lots of little islands and great fishing. But, that's for another day. If this trip works out as well as it should, there'll be no problem with me building more boats in the future! :D

Mike,

I reckon the little Freedon will be a fine boat, but have a look at my wifes words on the Laker mate. She loves mine so much, that she has asked me to build her one. I will be starting very soon.
