plans / scale model question

I've been busy clearing out other project from my garage in an attempt to make space for my new project. While the space is slowly being found, I'd like to build a scale model of the canoe that I want. How hard it is to scale the plans down or are there already scaled down measurements on the plans? Would balsa would be suitable for a model or is another wood recommended? If so, what type of wood? The reason I asked about balsa is I can get it fairly cheap and in size suitable to build large model aircraft, which I would think, would work for model canoes. Thanks!

I haven't built any real small models. But from what I understand there's some modeling wood that bends pretty easy.

How big of a model you looking to make?

I was thinking around 1/10 scale. Nothing over 2 feet. Just something to give me an idea of what I'll be doing on the real thing. That way if I mess up building the model, I'm not ruining expensive wood and wasting epoxy.
