JEM Watercraft

Thanks to Oldsparkey, hairymick, and jem I have narrowed my choice down to either the Sasquatch 16-33 or the Trapper 15-38. I love the clean sleek look of the Sasquatch but I also like the extra width and stability of the Trapper. I am 6-1 260 lbs. and will be using it alone most of the time however I would also like the option of taking someone along on occasion. it will primarily be used of fishing on small lakes. Any input to help me decide would be appreciated.

I have a very un-scientific way to decide which boat I like...... I go by the one that I like the looks of the best. As the old saying goes ..... If the boat looks good to you then it is the best one for on the water.

The biggest problem in making a wood boat is the actual decision to make it and then which one to make , as you have found out. Form there it is a cake walk putting the boat together.

Just remember which one you decide on to read the instructions , then reread them and understand all the steps before you start. When you get started do not get in a rush to complete it ....That is hard to do........REALLY HARD.

Preparation on all the steps will save a lot of time , sanding and extra work. You will understand that as progress is made.

I'm sure Matt will have a more scientific ( Intelligent ) way to help you make your mind up as to which one.

I'd say the Sasquatch 16-33 would fit your desires better.

Good choice , either Canoe would of worked but in my thoughts ( since I have one ) you picked the cream of the crop , it is one great canoe.
Let me reinforce that a little.... Since I was able to walk I have been in Old Town Canoes , the wood and canvas ones , then the metal ones made by Grumman , all sort of fiberglass ones and some others I don't even want to think about. In that short 67 years as far as I am concerned the Sasquatch is the best one that I have been in. My kids ( Or grand kids ) can fight over it when I am gone and that will be for a long time from now , I Hope.

Not fair to the Trapper since I never have paddled one and it appears to be a close cousin to the Sasquatch but when you have perfection why do anything else.

It will be interesting to see the build and then the final results when you paddle it but it handles like a dream on the water , just does everything the paddler wants it to do with ease.

I am very new to canoes but everybody and I do mean everybody who has paddled my Sas has loved her.

Really looking forward to another 16-33 hitting the water. They are a very special boat mate.
