Paddles to go with Canoe

So, the canoe is well under way, and I'm thinking I need purty wood paddles to go with the canoe. I found a set of free plans, but thought I'd toss the question out here for recommendations, etc.

Oh, I was thinking I'd build one. I have some cherry, and a big hunk of mahogany, and one board of walnut left, and scraps of redheart and bird'
s-eye maple could make nice handles....
They'd officially be free since this is extra wood from projects. I need some good plans though.

oh ok. duh!
I could trace my paddle and provide some dimensions. Making a paddle is pretty straight forward. Since you have different kinds of wood, it would look neat to glue together strips.

Cool! Yes, I was thinking strips, racing stripes that kind of thing. I've got something special in mind for Kym's paddle, but I won't say what yet. It involves contrasting wood and dovetails though.

As my friends tell me, OK ... A friend, OK.... An acquittance, OK..... So it is only the pizza delivery guy who I know real well.
We great each other by first names, Hi Mr.Pizza Delivery guy, He asks ... Is this the correct address ... for this pizza? Then puts out his hand for a tip.
Told me about that paddle ..... He is really smart and observant .....He said that ... Even a blind hog will find an acorn sometimes, so I took it as a complement on my skill at making a canoe paddle even though I had the felling he wanted it for flipping pizzas in the oven , the bum.
Chuck.

It does somehow seem wrong to be paddling a nice wooden canoe that you built yourself with a paddle bought at a store. I am finishing up a double bladed paddle that I built myself for paddling my solo canoe. It is all built, I just need to do some sanding and finish it up. I was hoping to do that this week and use it this weekend, but other things keep eating up my time. We have had so much rain out here in the desert lately it isn't even funny. All the streams and lakes are full and it makes me want to get out there to fish and paddle.

Chuck, I did see that gorgeous paddle on your site. However, you completely neglected to give any dimensions.
Is the blade flat or scooped? I can see the handle has a bit of a scoop to it.
Here's the thing, I'm *really* new at this canoeing thing. I don't even *own* a canoe paddle

(gasp). The ones I've used have been plastic rentals and I couldn't begin to guess what the proper dimensions for a wooden paddle should be so it's strong but light, or whether those plastic paddles are even any good. I can guess, but was hoping for illumination from those older and ..er... much older than me.
