Are the templates for the frames, or the stringers, or what? I'd like to know more about what they are so I can decide whether or not the time savings from them justify the cost.

Depends on the model. If there's a panel with a steep curve, then you'll get a pattern for it.
The Sit On Tops have several patterns.
