JEM Watercraft

The handy thing about the frapper map way of doing it is that I can look at an actual map and see pins where people are. It's much easier than looking at/through each persons profile unless you know a way that I don't.

I can just pick the pin closest to my location and contact that builder if it's close enough to get together.

I'll see if I can post a link to one so everyone can see what it is.

The memberlist link at the top of the page will list all of us and give you the option of a pm.
Again, a map is nice, but a quick glance at that list will get you to the information you're seeking.
If you ever have questions about a build, I'm confident the guys here will help you.
Having only spent a couple of months "Britain the Great",(serving with Her Majesty's Finest), I would have to get a map out to see where you're posting from.
I visited Chuck's frapper site but didn't look to see if it's set up for world- wide service.

I agree to the fact all information would be volentery,my thaughts were that if a new builder wanted to try his /her)(politicaly correct) hand at canoe /boat buildingas i did. Would view the craft avalable and the spend weeks sifting through the threds avalable to find out.

a) how easy is an easy craft to build (not an easy thing assess as this depends on the individual)

b) do i need specalist equipment to build

c)Is this crarf stable in coastal waters or inland waterways only

these are just three questions i spent two months answering befor i commited myself to build one of Mats craft (yes i did look elseware aswell)
if a prospective builder could have access Via a simple PM to a builder that Mat would recomend. Maybe a volenter to be a supportive link answer questions . After all if someone volenters to offer help I for one would prefere to ask someone who has built the craft i want to build and a presonal opinion on its handling.
As i said in my first thread may be it is a crap idea, its only with time i have grown to admire the work that Mat and all the Jem watercraft builders do and how supportive you lot are. That is something as i said came with time, how many more would build if they only knew how easy it is ( sorrry thats me preaching to the converted)

The Gander river canoe that i eventualy built, Still ot sure who else has built one, or how many have been built, and how they handle in costal water. Dont fancy it myself as theres not much V to the hull and on the east cost of England the tidal flow is quite severe.
These are questions that i thaught you builders would also like to know about your own craft ,but may be i was just wrong.

There are a lot of advantages to the way Matt has this forum set up.
By digging through the post and searching for all the builds of the boat you are interested in you gain several things, one a basic knowledge of the construction, different ideals on the way the boat is rigged, different finishes and the report most include on the completion of the unit usualy gives some facts about stabilization speed general ideal performance of the craft.
The problem with trying to standardize and rate these boats, everyone has different building ,paddling, and experience skills. Until you have built several of Matts boats it will be hard to compare them.
