Can you screw into your end pours?

My gunwales extend past my end pours (which have set up)...i was thinking of reinforcing the glue at the very ends of the outwales by putting some screws in, but they will bury into the end pours...is this kosher?

one more question:

I would like to install my thwarts, but I'm wondering...It looks like it would be best to install them right below the inwales, but should I secure them in place by screwing directly through the hull? Or is there a better way to secure the thwarts?

Screwing through the hull is the most secure way. To prevent moisture from getting to the plywood "edge grai

1) drill the holes
2) then over-drill them by 2x the diameter the original holes
3) fill with epoxy-filler (woodflour) goop. Let cure
4) redrill original holes.

If you wanted make that area stronger, you could apply an extra fiberglass patch or small plywood patch to disperse the load more.

Is there a handy way to cut the thwarts so that they fit snugly?

This is by far the most complex cut I'll need to make to finish off the boat...the top needs to be slightly wider than the bottom because of the perpendicular hull angle and the front needs to be slightly more narrow than the back because of the bend of the hull parallel to the water...

How do you measure for a cut like this?

I'd use a scrap piece of wood to play with getting that to fit just right. Use a flexible tape measure to get you started. What's the finished thwart height and where do you plan to install? I an try and get you some measurements to get you started.
