problem with ply

Post by Guest »

I'm building a Sabalo in my garage in NW Florida. Since this is and was going to be a "winter" project I was taking my time in cutting out the frames. When I went out to cut on the 3rd sheet I found that it was twisting so I looked at the frames I had already cut out and found them bowed and twisted as well.
Now I'm guessing that this is due to humidity and drying so I sprayed some water on one of the panels and placed dive weights on it. Don't know if this is going to work. Will I have to buy new ply or will this work? If it works for a short time, will the ply warp again after the project is finished? I'll have glass both inside and out of the finished project.
Comments and suggestions??

Thanks
Ty

Once the plywood starts to warp, it's tough to get it to stop.

Are you using the same ply for the entire boat?

Looks like I get to buy a few more sheets of ply. The frames for the seat are cut already but think I'm just going to recut the whole thing over. I figure I'll err on the side of caution to make sure this yak comes out straight and true. HEHE   If I wanted a yak I needed to put a rudder on I would get me one of those poly molded ones.

G'day Ty,

After you cut your panels, try covering them with some hessian sack cloth.

sometime the timber will absorb moisture from the atmosphere and warp. The cloth seems to minimise this. :D

Mick
