It seems almost a truism that the leading edge of the seat is about 6"-12" aft of the boat's center. I suppose there is really weight and balance formula out there somewhere, but a distance measurement is the only one I've heard of.
This seems related to the center of effort and center of leverage on a sail boat. Somewhere, there are mathematical formulae for figuring all this stuff out. But, it seems easier to just do it by guess and by god?
