I have finished and junked a 11.5 piro first build, it just wasn't big enough, but it came out good.
I need something large enough for me and wife, about 350 lbs total wt.
I'm 6'4 she's 5'3 the catch is I gotta be able to pick it up and put it on the roof rack of a 4x4 expedition SUV,
and it's gotta be pretty stable or my wife isn't gonna want to ride in it. We have very little canoe experience, but I have a lot of wood working history.
I have downloaded the 18 DK touring, and it looks good, but possibly may be too much canoe for occasional weekend camping trips for lake and slow river use (not camping out of it, just taking it along to get out on the water) Or for loading and unloading myself
I also like the look of the kayak T a lot, any recommendations?
all opinions welcome
Thanks in advance.

For a canoe, Iroquios sounds like it would fit the bill:

G'day RJW,
I have just completed a Sasquatch 16.5 and am delighted with it to say the least.
I am 6' X 200 pounds and my wife is of similar stature to yours.
Have a look at this boat mate. I can load this on and off the roof of my SUV by myself - easily
and I am no longer an athlete. It is, by a long shot, the best Canadian Canoe I have ever paddled.
I can't speak highly enough of this boat mate.

I concur with the Hairy one (and his judgement is usually not bad
)
Here's his build if you can do wood and you've played with resin you can do this (I'm just waiting for Matt to make a smaller version).

I'm half way through a DK and it is a bloody big canoe but I'm going to put 3-4 people in it so I can justify it
