varnishing over epoxy covered wood

Post by fishforfun »

Hello well the inspection of the canoe went good with the state of Illinois and there may be some new costomers for jem come out of it to. My ? is what kind of varnish do i use to cover over the epoxy and what would be the best that i could use that i could get at lowes or menards other than minwax. My plan is to varnish inside of the canoe and paint the outsidde green.

Pettit Z-Spar Captains varnish and Epifanes are two brands often recommended, but you probably won't find either at Lowes or Menards. I've never been in a Menards, so I might be wrong. You can order them and have them shipped to you. I ordered some the other day from Southern Crown Boatworks, but their price has gone up quite a bit since they updated their website. :( They were still cheaper than Raka.

I can not order can't have any thing shipped here because our stupid mapping system our great country has doesn't recognize our adress so companys can not ship to me ups, fed ex will not deliver sence we are not n the adress system. Our mail has to be delivered to po box at post office that would be why i got to use menards or lowes or local hard ware stores

Pettit Paints has a dealer finder on their site here. http://www.pettitpaint.com/retl_lookup.asp They might show a dealer near you.

You might want to have it delivered to a friend or something. You really want to get some marine varnish and stay away from the stuff like minwax.
